Mississauga Sports Show Report
The Ontario Floorball/Unihockey Federation took part in the Mississauga Sports Camps & Leisure Show on Saturday, Ferbruary 25th, 2007. The show, organized by the Mississauga Sports Council, brings Mississauga’s sports groups to Square One Shopping Centre, one of the busiest malls in North America.
The OFUF was given a floorball booth at a prime location in front of the Godiva Chocalatier store on Square One’s second level to promote floorball in the city. Throughout the day, interested shoppers stopped off at the booth to learn about floorball. Adults and children were very interested in the sport and were eager to start playing.
Drawing a crowd to the booth were the exciting zorro/air hooking demonstrations put on by Balraj Jutla, Mike Woods and Sonja Hotke. The three zorro wizzes were invited to Square One’s Centre Court to put on a zorro show in front of hundreds of people.
Floorball in Mississauga is gaining in popularity. The City of Mississauga runs youth and adult programs at Huron Park Community Centre. The OFUF hopes to expand to other community centres in the near future and is meeting with Rink City Sportsplex next week to discuss adding floorball to their sports offering.
The OFUF was represented by Juha Mikkola and he would like to thank Mike Woods, Balraj Jutla, Henry Korhonen and Sonja Hotke for volunteering their time at this event. The OFUF also wishes to thank the Mississauga Sports Council for their continued support.
