Team Ontario Captures Bronze at Nationals

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Team Ontario captured the bronze medal at the 2008 Canadian National Championships held in Calgary, Alberta. In the bronze medal game, Ontario brought their A-game and defeated host Alberta 7-3. In the finals, British Columbia defeated Quebec 4-3 to win their first national championship.

Team Ontario 2008

Ontario’s players were happy to bring home a medal, but the team was disappointed not to be in the final after taking eventual champs BC to the wire in their two meetings. In the morning’s semi-final, Ontario narrowly lost 5-4 in sudden death overtime. In the round-robin stage played the previous day, Ontario went winless despite playing three solid games. They lost two tightly fought games against Quebec and Alberta by one goal and tied BC.

Ontario was represented by the following players: Scott Wilson (TNEX), Mike Woods (Vikings), Darren Fournier (Ottawa Spartans), Pascal Meier (Ottawa Wolf Pack), Vesa Mikkola (Ciros Delirium), Randy Sa’d (TNEX), Balraj Jutla (Vikings), Paul Charbonneau (Salming), Henry Korhonen (Vikings), Juha Mikkola (Vikings), Osvaldo Matias (Saab) and goaltenders Nicholas Cifelli (Ciros) and Allan Candelario. Click here to visit the official Canadian Championships website.

Congratulations to the entire team and staff for an impressive performance in Calgary.

Attention Ball Hockey Players - Play for Canada!

    Friday, October 12th, 2007

The Ontario Floorball/Unihockey Federation is looking for a few good men to tryout for Team Canada. If you are a talented ball hockey player with aspirations to play for your country, please read the message below from OFUF President Randy Sa’d which has been distributed to all of the Tier 2 and Tier 3 CBHA Ball Hockey players in Ontario. If you have any questions or wish to get additional information, you can contact Randy at randy.sad@floorballontario.com or 416-970-2529.

2008 Canadian Men’s National Team Tryout – World Floorball Championships

    Sunday October 29th, 2007
    12:00 – 2:00 pm
    Ultimate Sports Centre, Vaughan

TO ALL ONTARIO BALL HOCKEY PLAYERS:

The CBHA and Ontario Floorball Federation have taken steps to begin a partnership that we hope will flourish in the months and years to come. As part of this development, the OFUF would like to invite competitive Ontario ball hockey players to an open tryout in preparation for the 2008 World Floorball Championships, taking place from April 21st – 28th in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Floorball is essentially a highly evolved version of floorhockey that uses a unique combination of rules that focus on skill and speed. Light weight composite or carbon fibre sticks give players the arsenal they need to pull off stunning stick handling moves and release deadly shots that top out at 116 mph (188 kmh)!

The skills used in ball hockey transfer very well to floorball. As such, our hope is to find a few talented ball hockey players that may be interested in an opportunity to represent Canada in 2008. The tryout being held on October 29th will provide you will an introduction to the sport. Equipment will be provided and there is no cost to participating. You will have the opportunity to learn the rules of the sport and will receive instruction on basic techniques. In the past, we have introduced skilled ice and ball hockey players to floorball that were immediately able to pick up the difference in skill that is necessary to be competitive. Those who are similarly successful will be encouraged to register to tryout for the Canadian National Team. Please keep in mind that attending this session requires absolutely no commitment.

There are tons of floorball videos and sources of information available on-line. Here are three useful links you may want to check out:

If you have any questions, please contact the coordinator of this event, Randy Sa’d – his contact info is listed below.

    Thanks,

We look forward to seeing YOU at the Ultimate Sports Centre on October 29th.
